The National Petroleum Company (NPC)
NPC is a public shareholding company incorporated in Jordan on June 21, 1995 with an authorized capital of JD (15.000.000).It has been merged with Petra drilling company on November 1, 2001. The Jordan Government is the majority shareholder. The main objective of NPC is to explore for oil and gas in addition to other related activities.
NPC was granted concession rights over 7600 km2 of Risha area (Risha Concession) by law no. (9) of 1996 which was amended by temporary law no. (15) of May 1. 2002.
The concession was amended by temporary law No.1 of.2010 to allow for bp participation in Risha Concession.
NPC at present is undertaking production and management Risha Gas Field in accordance with the Risha Concession law. Risha Gas Field (RGF) is located at 360 km east of Amman near the Iraqi border. The produced gas which is around 18 MMSCFD is sold on site to Central Electricity Generating Company CEGCO at prices set by the Government of Jordan. Generated electricity is transferred to Central Jordan by National Electric Power Company (NEPCO). NPC owns and operates 3 drilling rigs in addition to other field equipment and facilities and has a sound standing business as shown in its financial statements and yearly reports for the years of operation 1996-2010. During this period NPC has executed an extensive work program including integrated reservoir studies, 2D3D seismic surveys, drilling new wells (applying up to date technologies including, horizontal and (UBD) drilling , completion and workovers, hydraulic fracturing and upgrading of existing infrastructures including long interfiled gas pipelines..
At present NPC have submitted a successful bid to NRA according to which it will undertake a 3 years exploration program in East Safawi Block.
